Jasmine, a 10 year old in England, was not doing well in school. She was unable to keep up with the class, or follow the teacher’s instructions. As a result, she struggled in all her lessons and received poor grades. At home, she also struggled – even with simple tasks, like cleaning her room. Her mother, Emma, a teacher, was very frustrated: “sometimes Jasmine would be in tears because she couldn’t remember everything she was supposed to do.”

The reason for Jasmine’s struggle was her poor working memory. Without a good working memory anything that requires working with information – such as reading and math – will be affected. When Jasmine’s working memory was tested by the school psychologist, she was found to be in the 3rd percentile.
